I'm not sure how this turned out, but a walk from Mt Clear camp ground to the peak of Mt Clear ended up being a 35 kilometre thigh and lung busting day! We planned to turn back once at the top but decided we'd push on and drop down to Horse Gully Hut and head back to the camp ground from there ( I totally underestimated the distance) .
I can report that the northern descent from Mt Clear is steep, dusty with lots of loose gravel all the way down, making it extra slippery (and I admit) the odd fall onto ones backside! Needless to say, we enjoyed our beer when we got back to the campsite!
